What Is the Detail Library?
The Detail Library is a database of construction details and resources put together by our team to help architects, architectural technologists and designers save time in their technical design stages.
Our goal is to help make your life easier by saving you time, help with learning and encourage the sharing of knowledge in the industry.
We believe there is no point starting from scratch, that’s why we have started the details for you, to save you time and make the technical design process easier.
Our Team
The Detail Library is a small team of architects and architectural technologists focused on helping architects and architectural technologists with access to construction details and technical resources.
We believe good construction details should be available to everyone.
Emma Walshaw
Emma founded First In Architecture to make architectural learning easier—and ended up writing bestselling books and building Detail Library, a go-to resource for students and professionals alike. Powered by curiosity, coffee and a serious love of food.
Aida Rodriguez
Aida is an architect with a soft spot for social housing and a sharp eye for detail—literally, she co-authors our detailing books and creates technical content for Detail Library. When she’s not drawing construction details, she’s growing veg, taking photos, or planning her next adventure.
Emma Thackstone
Emma is an architect who’s delivered everything from homes to industrial builds—and now she’s knee-deep in her own renovation. At Detail Library, she creates technical content and construction details, all while testing ideas on her own house first!
Alex Bell
Alex is a Retrofit Architect, Retrofit Coordinator and Passivhaus Designer with 25 years’ experience of design and construction. He practises low energy, sustainable design using the Passivhaus principles, EnerPHit or the PAS 2035 Retrofit approach.
Rich Tyers
Rich Tyers is a sustainability-focused Architect and Passivhaus Designer with over 15 years of experience in environmentally responsible design and construction. His practice works on climate resilient retrofits, energy conscious homes and public sector projects.
